Within minutes of leaving Vientiane, we were in the countryside.

The landscape is similar to Thailand; with its verdant green rice paddies and golden wats.

But here, the atmosphere was more relaxed. Gone were the speeding pickups and motorcycles. Even the monks get around on pushbikes.
