After arriving in town, we slipped into ‘relax mode’.

Days went by just watching monks pass by, strolling past old French villas and viewing boat traffic on the river.

Evenings were spent devouring stir-fries with other riders. (Overeating is a hobby of all touring cyclists!) Together we’d pore over maps and road height profiles. When we found out how many hills we’d have to climb to reach Huay Xai, the river boat suddenly became a very interesting option…
