Mission
Livingstonia was founded by the Free Church of Scotland in the 1800s. The missionaries came to bring the “Three C’s of Colonialism: Civilization, Christianity, and Commerce.”
They also built an immense church and a lavish stone house to demonstrate the supposed ‘superiority’ of European society.
Nowadays, the town feels like an English film set—slightly deserted and decaying. The only people interested in visiting and learning about its history are tourists.
